Heartwarming Tale: Great Dane Adopts Elderly Woman as Grandma on Hiking Adventures

Alyssa Berkovitz and her beloved Great Dane, Kernel, share a passion for hiking and the outdoors. Together, they explore forests for hours, reveling in nature’s beauty.

Their fateful encounter with Grandma Wanda occurred on one such hiking trail. Before Kernel came into Alyssa’s life, hiking wasn’t her tea.

But their instant connection changed everything, inspiring Alyssa to embrace hiking whenever she could spare time.

Despite Alyssa’s occasional work commitments, Kernel found a daycare place, prompting Alyssa to pioneer a dog-walking program named Magnificent Co. in 2017.

Their mission is to provide dogs with the mental and physical stimulation they need through off-leash hikes in Boston.

This endeavor wasn’t without its challenges, as some dogs required special care. Yet, during one of these hikes, Alyssa, Kernel, Wanda, and Cal, an elderly couple, crossed paths. Tragically, Cal passed away, leaving Wanda alone.

But Kernel, with his innate ability to comfort, formed a deep bond with Wanda, who soon became part of Alyssa’s dog-walking pack.

Kernel, the gentle giant, assumed the role of troupe leader, ensuring the happiness of his fellow canine companions.

Kernel found a special place in Wanda’s heart with his affinity for grandmas, providing her solace during her grief.

Now, Grandma Wanda eagerly joins Alyssa’s weekly hiking adventures, relishing the company of all the dogs but sharing a unique connection with Kernel.
