After purchasing a new home, a St. Louis resident made an unsettling discovery—a pit bull was chained up in the basement, alone and without proper care.

Unsure of how long the dog had been confined there, the homeowner contacted the local animal rescue organization, Stray Rescue of St. Louis, for help.

When rescuers arrived, they found a black and white pit bull waiting at the bottom of the stairs. To their surprise, she greeted them with a wagging tail and an eager smile, showing no signs of aggression despite her confinement.

The chain attached to her collar was so short that she could only reach a small area near the basement steps.

The rescue team noticed the basement floor was covered in feces, suggesting the dog had been left there for an extended period.

Once freed from her chain, the pit bull—nicknamed “Jumping Bean” by her rescuers—dashed outside with uncontainable joy. She bounced around, thrilled to feel the grass under her paws and the fresh air around her.

Jumping Bean’s excitement only grew throughout her journey to freedom, and rescuers are confident that her sweet nature will quickly help her find a loving, permanent home.
