Mia, a young cat, was found in a colony needing assistance. Volunteers stepped in to feed the group and sought support for their rescue.

When local animal rescuer Natasha noticed Mia was pregnant, she arranged for a safe place for the soon-to-be mom.

“Mia is young and looks quite far along. She will have her last litter safe inside,” shared Karly Saltarski, co-founder of Salty Animal Rescue.

Once Mia arrived at the rescue, she was given a quiet space where she slowly adjusted, appreciating the comfort and security of her new home. Initially fearful, Mia’s first gentle purrs marked a turning point as she began to relax.

Still shy, Mia gradually adjusted to indoor life. Shortly after her arrival, she went into labor. Uncertain about how to care for her first kitten, Mia looked to Karly for guidance.

With support, Mia soon learned to care for her babies, handling much of the process independently while receiving help with the rest. Safe inside, her six kittens were spared the hardships of outdoor life.

“Exhausted, Mia cozied up with her babies. She’s not the most attentive mom, but she’s trying her best,” Karly noted.

Mia’s kittens thrived in foster care, quickly growing into active, curious little bundles of energy. By four weeks, they ran, wrestled, and explored their surroundings.

Despite a minor infection that required treatment, they grew strong and healthy under Karly’s care.

While the kittens’ confidence soared, Mia continued to be cautious. She often took time away from her energetic little ones to rest, seeking affection yet still a bit reserved. “She is so loving once she trusts you,” Karly said.

When Mia’s kittens reached the age of adoption, she settled into a new foster home with Elaine, who had resident cats.

The other cats quickly became Mia’s guides, and she eagerly followed them around, gaining the courage to trust humans more openly.

“With time, Mia’s been allowing petting, even purring and giving head bunts. She’s made so much progress,” Elaine shared.

Later, when Elaine brought home a mother cat, Morticia, and her two kittens, Mia was excited to assist.

With Morticia’s approval, Mia began caring for Pugsley and Ophelia, providing support and guidance whenever Morticia needed a break.

With the help of her feline friends, Mia has blossomed into a more confident and social cat, ready for a loving forever home.

“She just needs a little time to settle in and warm up, but as long as she has a cozy spot by the window, she’s a happy girl.”
