Tessa, a 20-year-old terrier mix, remains as affectionate and protective as ever, especially regarding her cherished toy banana.

While Tessa’s bond with her owner, Shanna Loren, is strong, her attachment to the toy banana is unparalleled.

Though it’s just a simple stuffed toy made of padding and yellow cloth, it holds immense significance for Tessa, and she’s eager to share its importance with everyone.

After her previous favorite toy was damaged, Loren first brought the banana into Tessa’s life five years ago.

She found the banana in a pet store trash can and immediately recognized its potential. “I knew it was the right size for Tessa, and she accepted it as soon as I gave it to her,” Loren told The Dodo.

Now, Tessa proudly showcases her beloved banana to visitors, insisting they acknowledge it before she sets it down.

Loren said, “She wants everyone to notice it before putting it away. Once she sets it down, she places it in the coziest spot she can find.”

Despite her age and hearing loss, Tessa’s affection for her banana remains unwavering. Loren noted, “We encourage visitors to acknowledge the banana so Tessa can relax. It’s amusing how our friends shout, ‘I love your bananas, Tessa!’ even though she’s deaf.”

For Tessa, age is no barrier to enjoying her favorite toy. Loren summed it up, saying, “She never sees it as just a ‘toy.’ It’s her treasured possession and a significant part of her life.”
