Meet Abu: The UK’s Largest Dog Who Stands 7 Feet 2 Inches Tall and Eats an Entire Chicken Daily
Abu, a Turkish Malakli, has earned the UK’s largest dog title. Standing at an impressive 7 feet 2 inches when on his hind legs and weighing as much as a young elephant, this two-year-old gentle giant commands attention.
His daily diet is as extraordinary as his size, consisting of 3 kilograms of food, including a whole chicken, three mackerel, two eggs, and raw meat dog food. This lavish diet costs his owner, Dylan Shaw, £11 each day, totaling over £4,000 annually.

Despite his colossal size, Abu is known for his gentle nature and affection. Despite his enormous frame, he loves cuddling with Dylan’s children on the sofa, often trying to sit on laps.
Dylan describes Abu as a joyful addition to the family, praising his easygoing demeanor and compatibility with the kids.

Abu’s imposing size can be deceptive. Inside the house, he is surprisingly quiet and easily overlooked.
His shoulders extend well beyond Dylan’s hips when he stands on all fours, and although he has already grown larger than anticipated, he is still maturing.
Turkish Malaklis reach their full size around three years old, so Abu may still have some growing left to do.

Dylan, who had always dreamed of owning a Turkish Malakli, waited until he had enough space to care for one properly.
Abu arrived from Turkey in November 2021 at just four months old, already larger than Dylan’s other dog, Luna, a Doberman.
To ensure Abu’s comfort in various settings, Dylan focused on socializing him with people and other dogs. This preparation has paid off, as Abu is now a local celebrity.

People frequently ask for photos during their walks, often joking about horse-related activities or inquiring about a ride.
Abu’s surprising growth spurt has made him even larger than expected. He now stands a foot taller and weighs nearly 30 kilograms more than initially anticipated.
Despite his size, he remains friendly and popular, even making appearances at school events like “Take a Pet to School Day,” where he was well-received by children.

Dylan cherishes Abu deeply and would not change him for anything. While Abu’s size is impressive, Dylan notes that his Doberman, Luna, appears more intimidating in comparison.
Before Abu, the record for the UK’s largest dog was held by Balthazar, a Blue Great Dane who stood at seven feet tall and weighed 15 stone. Balthazar passed away in August of this year, making way for Abu’s impressive record.
