Shannon has cherished her pet tortoise, Malti, since she was a tiny 5-week-old hatchling. Now 6 and a half years old, Malti has come a long way from her shy beginnings.

Initially, Malti avoided everyone, including Shannon’s foster mom, making their bond slowly develop. Shannon also has a dog named Flash Gordon and a pet bird.

Malti has a special fondness for Shannon’s mother, who regularly treats both Malti and Flash Gordon to watermelons and bananas.

Despite her gentle appearance, Malti is quite resourceful; she even figured out how to open a metal door independently.

Beyond her cleverness, Malti is also sensitive. At the slightest hint of danger, she retreats into her shell.

However, Malti has discovered that climbing helps her reach the tasty treats her grandmother offers.

Shannon observes that dogs and tortoises typically don’t mix well because dogs are curious and tortoises are fascinating, which can create tension. Despite this, Shannon’s family enjoys a harmonious relationship among all their pets.

Flash Gordon, a year younger than Malti, can’t imagine life without her. Their love for food unites them, and they eagerly await snack time with Grandma.

Malti often approaches Flash Gordon as if trying to understand him better, and she is a beloved family member, frequently following Shannon’s mom around the house.

Shannon believes that whether an animal is warm-blooded or cold-blooded doesn’t matter. Malti has taught Shannon to appreciate life from different perspectives, and Shannon has a deep affection for her tortoise.
