Woman Adopts Dog with an Unusual Mix of 13 Breeds

Kristen, a staff member at the Nevada Humane Society, recently encountered a dog with an extraordinary appearance.

The dog, Peanut, had an unusual mix of features: a large, squishy face and floppy ears on a tiny Chihuahua-sized body. When Kristen first saw Peanut, his eyes seemed to plead for help.

His previous owner had deeply loved Peanut, but due to financial limitations, they could no longer afford the dental care he needed.

As a result, Peanut was surrendered, and his teeth were removed. Kristen, who had just lost her rescue dog a few days earlier, didn’t hesitate to foster Peanut.

Kristen described Peanut as looking like a combination of baby Yoda, a bunny, and a gerbil. Despite his quirky appearance, Peanut was a quiet dog who always wanted to be near Kristen.

The bond between them was remarkable, with Peanut often trusting Kristen completely. He would have happily stayed in her arms all day.

Curious about Peanut’s background, Kristen decided to have a DNA test done. The results were surprising: Peanut was a mix of 13 breeds.

The top five breeds in his DNA were Chihuahua, short-haired miniature dog, Shih Tzu, Samoyed, and Nordic Spitz. Interestingly, there were no signs of beagle, pug, or Shar-Pei in his genetic makeup.

Kristen affectionately referred to Peanut as a “super mutt extraordinaire” due to his unique appearance. Some people even mistook him for a bunny.

At home, Peanut enjoyed playing with Kristen’s other senior rescue dogs: Oliver, who had one eye; Daisy, a toothless Chihuahua; and Rudy. He also had three rescue cats as playmates.

Kristen’s journey into animal rescue began with her first rescue dog, Petey, who inspired her to volunteer and foster other rescue animals.

She believes rescue animals are the most unique and genuine creatures, deserving of a loving forever home. Now a certified therapy dog, Peanut brings joy, peace, and comfort to those around him.
