Retired Police Dog Reunites with Former Handler in Emotional Encounter

An emotional reunion between a retired police dog and his former handler has touched the hearts of many.

Wang Wang, an eight-year-old German shepherd, served as a sniffer dog at a security checkpoint in Xichuan, Henan Province, central China.

After years of dedicated service, Wang Wang retired in June 2019 and found a loving home where he could enjoy his well-earned rest.

Last month, Wang Wang received a surprise visit from his former handler, Matan, who stopped by while on patrol near Wang Wang’s new home.

The touching moment was captured in a video shared on the Xichuan police Douyin account, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok.

The video shows the officers approaching Wang Wang outside his home, and as the patrol team prepared to leave, Wang Wang stayed close to Matan, unwilling to part from his old friend.

Despite the grey in his fur, Wang Wang’s enthusiasm was evident, showing that the bond between them remained strong.

Viewers were deeply moved by the reunion, with many expressing their admiration for the loyalty and affection shown by Wang Wang.

One viewer remarked on the dog’s clear longing for his handler, while others questioned why the two couldn’t remain together despite their close bond.

The Xichuan police clarified that while police dogs receive excellent care at the training center, their lives are often filled with work and little time for play.
