Friendly Stray Dog Rescued After Waiting in the Same Spot Every Day
Rescue volunteers from “Howl of a Dog” met a gentle stray named Remy during a spay-neuter campaign in a rural Romanian village.
Remy had made a habit of living on the sidewalk outside a local grocery store, where he was fed daily by a kind store owner.
Every morning, Remy would greet the volunteers with a wagging tail and a friendly demeanor. Despite his cheerful personality, he bore signs of mistreatment—his nose was scarred from being burned with a red-hot iron, a cruel and baseless practice believed by some in rural Romania to strengthen a dog’s immune system and treat distemper.
In reality, it only added to the suffering of dogs like Remy. Additionally, the tip of Remy’s left ear had been torn off.
Despite these hardships, Remy’s warm and welcoming nature never wavered. During the campaign, the volunteers also neutered him, recognizing his potential as a loving companion.
Unfortunately, dogs are often seen merely as tools for guarding livestock or hunting in many rural areas. Friendly dogs like Remy, who aren’t suited for these tasks, are often deemed worthless.
The volunteers attempted to learn more about Remy’s background, but no one in the village seemed to know him.
Given the scar on his nose, he likely had an owner at some point but had been abandoned. The volunteers placed a collar on him to protect him from being mistaken for a feral dog.
Despite their efforts, no one in the village was willing to adopt Remy. So, the volunteers took him to the “Howl of a Dog” shelter, where he finally had a safe place to stay, complete with a warm bed, toys, and friends.
Recently, Remy’s story took a happy turn when he was adopted by a loving family in Charlotte, North Carolina.
