Joyful Puppy Can’t Stop Wagging Her Tail as She Leaves the Shelter
Shelter staff encounter many dogs daily, but some stand out, leaving a lasting impression. A sweet puppy, Matilda was one of those special cases at the Douglas County Animal Shelter.
From the moment Matilda arrived, the staff noticed something unique about her. Despite being cheerful and full of energy, her circumstances were anything but ordinary.
What surprised everyone was how quickly she was adopted, especially considering the rough start she had in life.
Matilda’s early months were challenging. The two-month-old pup was found as a stray on the streets of Georgia and suffered from skin irritation and a worm infection.
Yet, none of this dampened her spirit. She kept wagging her tail, a constant display of her joyful nature.
Matilda’s affectionate personality particularly moved a volunteer at the shelter, Santina Sanders. “She gave the most amazing kisses,” Sanders told The Dodo. “She was simply the best.”
Matilda’s charm didn’t go unnoticed. Another rescue organization, Peebles and More Animal Rescue, also fell in love with her.
Teresa Bull Ciofalo, one of the directors, was so captivated by Matilda’s happy and gentle demeanor that she decided to rescue her from the shelter and place her in a foster home.
When Matilda’s foster dad came to pick her up, her joy was undeniable. She wagged her tail so vigorously during the hour-and-a-half car ride that it seemed almost crooked from all the excitement.
There was one thing Matilda wasn’t fond of, though—wearing a collar. Her tail would stop wagging whenever her foster dad, Rich, tried to put one on her, a clear sign she wasn’t a fan. But aside from that, Matilda quickly adjusted to her new home.
Now, Matilda enjoys playing with her foster siblings, spending time with her toys, and even helping her human brother with his schoolwork. She’s thriving in her new environment, where her happiness continues to shine.
