Woman Adopts Overlooked Senior Dog, Transforming Both Their Lives

Adopting senior dogs is often overlooked, but for one woman, giving an older dog a second chance changed their life forever.

Alaska, a female German Shepherd, spent nearly a decade in a shelter, where she became timid and withdrawn.

When Kat Napiórkowska first met her, Alaska’s quiet gaze seemed to plead for a home. Moved by this connection, Kat decided to bring her home.

The transition wasn’t easy. Alaska was initially too frightened to step outside, easily startled, and wary of people.

Unlike most dogs, she sat quietly, struggling to adjust to her new surroundings. Once, while Kat was bathing her, Alaska was so exhausted that she fell asleep in the tub—a sign of how overwhelming the change was for her.
