Vizsla Adopts Abandoned Fawn, Forms Unexpected Bond (VIDEO)
Two sisters live on a modern organic farm surrounded by forests, meadows, and fields in a picturesque corner of Bavaria, Germany.
Their 4-year-old Hungarian Pointing dog, Leo, a Vizsla, made an extraordinary friend in mid-2021 when he met a young fawn named Ludovica (Lu).
Watch the video at the end.
Lu was discovered in the garden by the sisters after her mother, who had initially left her there, did not return.
The fawn was hungry and limping, prompting the sisters to step in. Leo, instinctively understanding what was needed, approached and comforted Lu.
Leo began to care for Lu without any prompting from the sisters, as if she were his own. The sisters took on the role of Lu’s caregivers, feeding her every two hours and providing round-the-clock care, regardless of the weather. Although Lu was a wild animal, the sisters maintained her safety with a secure boundary fence.
As Lu grew, she started exploring beyond the immediate area, with Leo always by her side. Their bond grew stronger, and Leo’s protective nature made him behave like a deer himself.
Lu followed Leo’s lead, mimicking his actions in the woods. The family fitted Lu with a GPS tracker and an orange collar to keep track of her.
While deer cannot see orange, this collar helps the family locate Lu and keeps her safe from hunters.
Despite Lu’s general aversion to people and other dogs, she thrived in the company of Leo and the sisters. Residents were notified about the deer with the orange collar, ensuring her safety in the wild.
The unique companionship between Leo and Lu highlights the deep connections that can form between animals and the lengths to which they will go to protect each other.
