Heartwarming Rescue: Dog Tied to Pole Reaches Out to Cop for Help
In Pompano, Florida, Officer Angela Laurella responded to a distressing call about two dogs tied to utility poles.
With no surveillance, it was unclear how long the dogs had been abandoned or who had left them. Officer Laurella knew time was critical as temperatures soared over 100 degrees.
Upon arrival, she found a frail gray dog, later named Liam, tightly bound to a pole, unable to move. Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades, Florida, described the situation: “He was tied to a pole with a very short leash, severely underweight and dehydrated, with every rib and bone visible.”
As Officer Laurella approached, Liam lowered his head and extended his paw, seemingly begging for help.
Moved by his plea, she quickly sought assistance from Roman’s rescue organization despite their strained resources.
Liam, a 17-pound pocket bulldog, required extensive veterinary care. Now recuperating at Roman’s home, he is gaining strength and eating more regularly.
Roman shared, “He gets so much love all the time. Volunteers are boiling chicken and rice in large batches for him.”
Although Liam has numerous vet visits ahead, his affectionate and forgiving nature shines through. Roman noted, “He loves everyone, and this dog doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. After all he’s been through, he’s still so appreciative.”
Liam’s story highlights the ongoing issue of pet abandonment in Florida. Roman urges pet owners to seek help from shelters and rescues before abandoning their animals, as many facilities are in total capacity. Liam exemplifies the belief that every dog deserves a second chance.
Reflecting on Liam’s journey, Roman added, “Dogs like Liam can teach humanity some important truths. Your faith is just restored.”
