When a small Chihuahua mix named Target joined his grandson’s household, he quickly became a source of stress for the family, particularly his grandmother, Kathy.

The dog’s behavior was far from the gentle demeanor expected of such a small breed, creating tension within the household.

An experienced dog trainer, Cesar Millan was called in to address Target’s aggressive behavior. The issues began around September 2020 when Nick, the dog’s owner, moved in with his grandparents following his parents’ separation.

Since then, Kathy has struggled with Target, who displays signs of aggression such as growling, salivating, and snapping when provoked.

The situation escalated to the point where Target was confined to a kennel. Kathy even considered the difficult decision to rehome Target if his behavior did not improve, despite her deep affection for her grandson.

Cesar Millan’s approach involved observing Kathy’s interactions with Target to identify the triggers of his aggression.

It became clear that Kathy’s actions contributed to the dog’s stress, as she did not recognize the signs that Target was uncomfortable.

After addressing these issues and discovering that Target had dental problems, Cesar helped Kathy manage the dog’s discomfort and introduced training techniques to help Target relax.

With these adjustments, Target’s behavior improved significantly, and the family hopes that with ongoing training, they will be able to keep the dog and restore harmony in their home.
