Heartbreaking Story of a Dog Covered in Painful Quills Touches Hearts in Brazil
Thor, a three-year-old golden-brown dog from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was found by his owner Adriano Bertoline in a distressing state, impaled by hundreds of yellow quills from a porcupine. The quills covered his muzzle, forehead, nose, ears, and legs, causing immense pain.
Faced with the inability to afford the veterinary bill, Adriano, currently unemployed, turned to the internet for help. He launched a fundraising campaign to gather the necessary funds for Thor’s medical care.
Dr. Jose Roberto Apolari, a local councilor, saw the plea for help and stepped in. He arranged for Thor to be transported to the hospital and offered to cover the medical expenses. Dr. Apolari’s intervention was critical in ensuring Thor received the urgent care he needed.
This incident marks the second time Thor has had a painful encounter with a porcupine in just one year.
Adriano shared his distress on social media, posting images of Thor and asking for veterinary assistance.
His heartfelt plea read: “Everyone has a wonderful morning. When I woke up this morning, my dog was in this situation. Can a veterinarian or a hospital help him? Concerned that I cannot afford it.”
Dr. Apolari’s timely help alleviated Thor’s suffering and provided much-needed relief to Adriano, who has four children and is struggling with unemployment.
Adriano expressed his gratitude in a Facebook post: “Dr. Apolari was an angel in my dog’s life since I couldn’t afford a private veterinarian.”
Thor’s previous encounter with a porcupine happened in February 2021, when a friend of Adriano, who worked at a veterinary clinic, helped treat the dog.
Unfortunately, the recurring incidents highlight the dangers dogs face from porcupines in the area.
