Kitten Overcomes Hind Paralysis and Forms a Special Bond with a Doting Dog
A kitten, found outside a store in Anchorage, Alaska, has overcome incredible challenges and found comfort in a surprising friend—a caring dog named Cinder.
Earlier this year, the kitten, later named Bridger, was discovered near a store, cold and unable to move his hind legs. He was rushed to Anchorage Animal Care and Control, where he was quickly treated. Despite his condition, Bridger’s spirit remained strong, and he charmed the veterinary staff with his resilience. “He showed everyone his amazingly resilient spirit, though his back legs/hips were still not working properly,” Shannon Basner, founder of Mojo’s Hope, shared with Love Meow.

Mojo’s Hope, a rescue that specializes in caring for animals with special needs, stepped in to provide the additional care Bridger needed. At VCA Alaska Pet Care, Bridger was kept warm with a soft blanket while vet techs Emma and Toni pampered him with attention. X-rays revealed no spinal damage, and laser treatments showed promising results. “We felt his hind paralysis may be due to a nutritional deficit or a possible infection,” Shannon explained.
Through it all, Bridger remained a beacon of happiness, seeking affection and thriving under the care he received. At home, he nestled into Shannon’s neck, purring contently while soaking up every moment of affection. “With a more consistent schedule along with high-quality food and regular laser treatment, he has gotten so much stronger,” Shannon said.
While Bridger may never regain full mobility, he has adapted to his condition with joy and determination. He requires ongoing help for toileting but never lets that dampen his playful spirit. He quickly warmed to the rest of the animals at Mojo’s Hope, especially Cinder, the rescue’s loving husky.
Bridger instantly bonded with Cinder, who showered him with gentle care. “It was love at first sight for Bridger when he met the sweet husky. He couldn’t get enough of her attention and would constantly seek out her snuggles,” Shannon shared. Cinder, known for her nurturing instincts with other rescues, took Bridger under her wing. “She is patient, loving, and soaking in all the love that Bridger wants to share with her.”
Despite his paralysis, Bridger stays busy playing with his foster kitty siblings—HarPURR, Kane, and Baggie—and engaging in fun activities like exploring tunnels and chasing crinkly toys. His foster family notes that Bridger is always filled with joy, living in the moment and embracing life fully.
“Bridger finds joy in every moment, and this is why I am so passionate about these precious cats. They have such a beautiful perspective on life and teach us so much each day,” Shannon said.
Now, Bridger is looking for a loving home that will embrace his needs and welcome all the love he has to offer.
