Kitten Rescued from a Busy Road Now Thrives as a Playful Companion

A tiny kitten found sitting alone by the side of a busy road has transformed into a playful and affectionate companion, never leaving her foster mom’s side.

Around a month ago, animal rescuer Laila D’Souza, founder of the Winston Memorial Foundation, was on her way home from work when she noticed a small kitten lying next to a curb. Concerned by the amount of traffic passing by, Laila pulled over to investigate. As she approached, she found a scared, motionless kitten, no more than four weeks old, sitting alone by the road. There was no sign of the kitten’s mother or any siblings.

Laila quickly picked up the frightened kitten and brought her back to the safety of her car. Despite her fear, the kitten seemed relieved to be away from the dangerous traffic. She named the kitten Scarlet and arranged for a foster friend to care for her.

“Scarlet was terrified, shivering, and refused to eat at first,” Laila shared with Love Meow. Her foster mom set up a quiet and comfortable space for Scarlet, allowing her to adjust at her own pace. For the first few days, the kitten hid in corners, startled by every sound. “She was absolutely terrified when she arrived, trying to hide anywhere she could,” her foster mom recalled.

With time, patience, and plenty of good food, Scarlet began to warm up to her new surroundings. Slowly but surely, she became more comfortable around her foster family, and after a few days, she finally began to trust them. “She started to run up to us and rub her head on us,” her foster mom shared.

Once Scarlet realized she was safe, her playful personality blossomed. She chased the resident dog, Bella, and followed her foster mom everywhere around the house. After an active play session, she would cuddle up in their arms and purr herself to sleep.

Scarlet has since become a bundle of energy, running around the house as if she owns the place. “She’s very funny, full of energy, and loves playing with feathers,” her foster mom told Love Meow. Despite her lively daytime antics, when night falls, Scarlet turns into a cuddly companion, ready for affection. “She loves sitting on our shoulders and being close to our faces.”

As she’s grown, Scarlet has kept her playful nature but remains her foster mom’s constant companion, always following her around like a little shadow. Soon, she’ll be paired with another foster kitten to give her a playmate for all her energetic adventures.

No one knows how Scarlet ended up alone on the street, but her future is now bright. She will never have to worry about food or safety again, and her days will be filled with love, playtime, and plenty of cuddles.
