Kitten Rescued from Dump Finds Loving Forever Home

A young kitten, later named Bean, was found in an unexpected place when she emerged from the woods near a local garbage dump. During their routine visit to assist the community cats living there, volunteers from Bay d’Espoir Kitty Rescue were shocked when they heard her cries.

The volunteers initially heard her distressed meows coming from the woods, and soon after, they saw her tiny face peeking out from the trash. Given that they hadn’t seen her the previous evening, they believed she had been recently abandoned.

“She was lucky to be so vocal, which made it easy for us to find her,” said Sandra, one of the rescuers, in a Facebook post.

Despite her rough surroundings, Bean made her way through the garbage towards the rescuers, clearly needing help. Though limping, she approached them without hesitation, constantly rubbing against their legs and purring.

That night, the little kitten finally found safety. She spent her first night in a comfortable bed, no longer hungry or alone.

The next day, she was estimated to be around 10 weeks old and was taken to Exploits Valley SPCA for treatment. Bean had an injury to her front leg, but thankfully, it wasn’t broken.

After being thoroughly examined, Bean was ready to heal in a home where she could receive proper care and attention. “She’s the sweetest kitten you could imagine,” shared a shelter representative. “She purrs as soon as you look at her.”

Throughout her recovery, Bean remained attached to her caregivers, always following them around and offering her affectionate purrs.

With her love for human companionship so clear, the shelter staff focused on finding a family to provide her with the love and care she deserved.

Wendy Thomas, who had previously adopted a cat from the SPCA, came across Bean’s story and felt an instant connection. “We always adopt rescues or cats who come to us unexpectedly,” Wendy told Love Meow. “Bean’s story touched my heart, and I knew we had to meet her.”

Wendy was no stranger to adopting injured cats, and after contacting the SPCA, it was clear that Bean had found her perfect match. Once in her new home, Bean quickly bonded with her new feline siblings, eager to welcome her.

Now, Bean spends her days playing in boxes, climbing to the top of the cat tower, and enjoying life with her new family.

While she’s still a little possessive of food—a habit from her time at the dump—she’s learning that she no longer has to fight for her meals.

With plenty of love and care, Bean’s leg continues to heal, and her playful, adventurous spirit shines through more each day.
