Pregnant Cat Finds Safety in Carrier Days Before Giving Birth
A pregnant grey tabby cat, who had been living on the streets, found safety just days before delivering her kittens.
The cat had been wandering the area for some time until Sophie, a local animal rescuer, stepped in to help the neighborhood strays. One day, Sophie returned and discovered the tabby in one of her humane traps. Noticing the cat’s round belly, she suspected the cat was close to giving birth.

The cat, later named Tikita, willingly entered a carrier and was quickly moved to a cozy room with soft bedding and plenty of food. Just a few days later, Sophie was surprised to find that Tikita had given birth to three kittens in the safety of her new home, away from the dangers of the streets.
At first, Tikita seemed unsure about how to care for her newborns. Sensing the need for assistance, a foster volunteer from Chatons Orphelins Montreal stepped in. The family of four was brought to their foster home that night, where the kittens were bottle-fed to ensure they received proper nourishment. “After 24 hours of round-the-clock feeding, the kittens began gaining weight,” the rescue told Love Meow.
Within a few days, Tikita’s maternal instincts fully kicked in, and she became a devoted mother, tending to her babies’ every need. With the support of the foster family, the kittens thrived, growing stronger each day.
The kittens, named Kookie, Smooty, and Toopie, quickly hit their milestones and began showing their individual personalities. They watched their mother eat and soon learned to eat from a dish, before eagerly exploring their surroundings with newfound confidence.
The trio became a curious and playful bunch, always seeking attention from their foster family and other cats. One of their favorite activities was bird-watching from the windowsill, where they would take turns hopping up to get the best view.
Meanwhile, Tikita started enjoying some well-deserved quiet time away from her energetic kittens. “She’s ready to find a forever home of her own,” the foster family shared. Tikita enjoys spending time with her humans and communicates with soft coos and chirps, following them around to stay close.
Although she may be shy around new people at first, Tikita warms up quickly and loves to ask for cuddles. When she’s not chatting with her humans, she can often be found gazing out the window or enthusiastically chasing after her favorite feather wand toy.
Now that Tikita’s three kittens have grown into healthy young cats, each with their own unique personality, she can look forward to finding a loving home where she can finally relax and enjoy her new life indoors.
