In a heart-wrenching reminder of the cruelty some animals face, a sweet dog named Malea was found abandoned in a scorching dumpster, left to fend for herself by an uncaring owner. Her story, however, takes a beautiful turn thanks to the quick actions of compassionate rescuers.

Rescuers Rush to Save the Abandoned Pup

In a Missouri neighborhood, a kind-hearted man witnessed the distressing sight of Malea trapped in a dumpster.

He immediately contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis, who dispatched their chief life-saving officer, Donna Lochmann, and her team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the rescuers lifted the dumpster lid to find Malea’s adorable eyes staring back at them. The grateful dog wagged her tail and smiled, relieved to see someone had come to her aid.

The rescue team was deeply moved by her plight and relieved she was still conscious despite the heat.

“We tried to hold back tears, but this choked us up. It was so hot inside; we’re thankful she didn’t pass out,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared on their Facebook page.

Malea’s Journey to Safety

Lochmann climbed into the dumpster to comfort Malea, gently placing a leash around her neck before lifting her out.

Malea’s gratitude was evident as she showered her rescuers with kisses during the ride to the shelter.

“You’re a beautiful girl. You do not belong in the dumpster. You are not trash. You are NOT trash. No. You’re a beautiful girl. Your life matters. Yes, it does,” Lochmann reassured the pup, who leaned on her shoulder, feeling safe and loved.

On their way to the shelter, the rescuers received another urgent call about two puppies abandoned in a downtown parking lot. They rescued the delighted puppies without hesitation and brought them to the shelter.

Searching for a Loving Home

Due to space constraints at the shelter, the two puppies were placed in foster care, while Malea joined the Rovernight program, which allows people to host a dog temporarily in their homes.

“She’s in a loving home being spoiled! She gets along great with other dogs and is gentle with little kids, too,” said Natalie Thomson, the rescue’s Director of Marketing.

Malea and the two puppies are now showered with love and affection, each seeking their forever homes.

Their heartwarming story underscores the importance of taking action when witnessing an animal in need. Calling a rescue organization or local shelter can save a precious life.
