Rescued Cat Finds a New Beginning, Transforming Her Life and Her Kittens’ Future
A young cat named Cherish found a fresh start after being rescued, and this new journey would forever change the lives of her kittens.
Best Friends Felines, along with other animal rescue groups, came together to help a colony of cats that had been abandoned.
A man cared for them alone but struggled to keep up. Among the cats rescued by Best Friends Felines was Cherish, a six-month-old tabby who was heavily pregnant.
She was underweight and starving, but she immediately approached her rescuers, eager for the care she desperately needed.
Once in their care, Cherish began eating regularly, filling her belly with every meal. Slowly, her body recovered, and her belly grew as her kittens developed. She was moved into a foster home with a cozy setup—complete with soft blankets and plenty of food.
For the first time, she didn’t have to compete for food or resources. Cherish could relax and bond with her foster carer in the peace of a home.
“At first, Cherish was a bit overwhelmed with so many little ones to look after,” said a representative from Best Friends Felines. “But over the week, she got the hang of it and became a completely devoted mother.”
They were relieved to have rescued Cherish in time so she could give birth to her final litter in a safe, nurturing environment.
However, the first week presented unexpected challenges. Cherish developed digestive issues, affecting her appetite.
Since she was already small, sustaining seven growing kittens was tough, and soon the kittens began losing weight.
The rescue team acted quickly, bringing Cherish to a vet for treatment to restore her appetite. Meanwhile, they started supplementing her kittens with extra feeding to ensure they were getting enough nutrition. Gradually, the kittens regained their strength, their tiny legs waving as they fed.
“They know I’m the food lady,” their carer shared. “As soon as I enter the room, they start coming towards me for their formula feeds.”
With plenty of care and a balanced diet, Cherish’s condition improved. While she still needed extra help with bottle feeding, her kittens grew. They started learning to eat from a dish and use the litter box at five weeks old.
As they gained independence, Cherish began taking time for herself, climbing to higher places out of their reach.
“With seven little ones, it’s no surprise she needs some me-time,” their rescuer explained.
The kittens were developing well, each showing their personality. They were described as lively, adorable, and full of mischief, often turning their space into a playful chaos.
Cherish remained a wonderful mother, though she was clearly ready for a break from motherhood.
“Their room needs daily cleaning—sweeping, mopping, changing litter, and washing blankets,” the carer added. “They’re starting to show their unique personalities.”
Thanks to the team of rescuers, Cherish and her kittens now have a bright future. The kittens will grow up without ever knowing hunger or fear, and Cherish is enjoying her life indoors, ready to be pampered and play like the carefree kitten she once was.
