Luka, a tiny kitten found alone and crying in an alley, was discovered by a kind passerby. Despite searching, they couldn’t locate his mother or any siblings, so they reached out to local rescuers for help.

Volunteers from The Bond Between quickly took in the determined kitten. Luka’s drive to survive was immediately clear.

According to Kris Kaiser, his foster mom, bottle-feeding can be tricky for orphaned kittens who often struggle with formula, but Luka was different.

“He was skinny, hungry, and vocal when he arrived, but thankfully, he had a good appetite and took to the bottle immediately,” Kris shared.

Though initially unsure of his new environment, Luka quickly settled in. His loud purrs filled the room, and he would happily knead his paws into soft blankets. Safe and comfortable, Luka thrived under the care of his foster mom, eagerly voicing his needs.

“He lets it be known whenever he’s feeling hungry and has come so far in the week since he arrived,” Kris noted. “He has almost doubled in size. He’s now just over a pound. He has a strong will to live.”

Luka isn’t shy about expressing himself, especially at mealtimes. His demanding calls for attention highlight his persistent nature—nothing stops him from making his presence known.

“He has discovered his inside voice, which is often silent or a tiny squeak, making him even more adorable,” Kris added.

After eating, Luka loves to flop on his side, wave his paws, and groom his little “bear paws,” impressing everyone with his progress.

As Luka’s personality shines, his quirky habits have charmed his foster mom. One of his amusing traits is his unique way of kicking the bottle as he eats.

“He tries to bunny-kick the bottle while trying to eat. Wiping his face offers the same challenges. The little man has a personality. That’s for sure.”

Despite his small size, Luka exudes a big cat attitude, often acting like a mini house panther with a tiny roar.

“Right now, there is more of a need for bottle baby fosters. One perk with fostering orphans is that they live in tiny spaces like a storage tote when young and a playpen closer to weaning age,” Kris mentioned.

At four weeks old, Luka will soon meet two other foster kittens his age, opening the door to playful interactions, toy discoveries, and wrestling matches.

“He will benefit so much from having other kittens to play with,” Kris said.

For now, Luka’s days are filled with naps, feeding, and rolling around on his chubby belly before settling into a deep sleep.

From the moment he was found in that alley, Luka’s determination to live has been unwavering. In just over a week, he’s grown into a brave kitten with a big appetite and an even bigger personality.
