Miraculous Rescue: Hiker Discovers Abandoned Dog on Arizona Mountain

A hiker trekking along a narrow, precarious pathway on Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, stumbled upon a heartrending surprise that would change his day entirely.

Lost in his thoughts, the hiker’s attention was abruptly captured by glistening amber eyes peering out from a crevice in the mountainside.

To his astonishment, those sorrowful eyes belonged to a sad and weary dog. Her coat, the color of earth, camouflaged her against the surroundings, with only her striking eyes betraying her presence.

The dog, later named Bright Eyes, was emaciated and on the brink of surrendering to exhaustion.

Rescue Efforts:

Upon spotting the distressed canine, the hiker’s heart stirred with compassion, igniting a glimmer of hope in the dog’s eyes.

He promptly contacted the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) for assistance. Emergency animal medical technicians Ruthie Jesus and Tracey Miiller swiftly responded to the call.

The compassionate hiker remained by Bright Eyes’ side for nearly two hours until the rescuers arrived.

Jesus later recounted, “She blends in so much, the complainant told us that he wanted to call her Bright Eyes because when he hiked past her, the only thing he saw was her amber bright eyes staring back at him.”

Despite her fear, Bright Eyes allowed the rescuers to provide much-needed care.

Examination revealed severe dehydration, paw injuries, and a wound on her rear end, yet her gentle demeanor won over the rescuers’ hearts.

The dog’s exhaustion rendered her unable to walk, prompting the rescue team to carry her down the mountain in turns.

In their arms, Bright Eyes found solace and safety, her eyes reflecting gratitude for the humans who had come to her aid.

Hope for Bright Eyes:

Bright Eyes’ presence on the mountain remains a mystery, but her rescuers are grateful for their timely intervention.

Jesus expressed, “We were so pleased to be able to get her. She was just so dehydrated. I think she’d probably been up there several days, and that was probably her last day, and this Good Samaritan just saved her life.”

Bright Eyes received medical treatment, fluids, antibiotics, and care for her stomach issues at a hospital. Estimated to be around two years old, she will soon begin the search for a loving forever home.

The resilient pup’s ordeal is a testament to the kindness of strangers and the dedication of animal welfare workers like Miiller and Jesus, who ensure that every animal receives the chance for a brighter future.
