The team named her Chalala, noting that she had suffered for some time with her untreated wound, which resulted in the loss of two toes on her right paw.

They suspected she might have been in a car accident. “She was remarkably calm, allowing us to treat her without fuss,” the rescue noted.

After cleaning and dressing her wound, Chalala began to show signs of recovery, slow-blinking and purring as her caregivers tended to her needs.

It soon became clear that Chalala was not just fighting for her own survival; she was also pregnant.

“Her stomach was full of strange stuff,” indicating she had scavenged for food in her desperate state. At just five years old, she was tiny for a cat expecting kittens. “She loves being held and is so hungry that she dives into the food,” her rescuers shared.

With a nurturing foster home and plenty of food, Chalala regained her strength and put on weight.

Once her bandages were removed, she moved about freely, adapting quickly despite her missing toes. “She can walk normally now and is doing very well,” the rescue said, noting her remarkable healing process.

In a surprising turn of events, Chalala gave birth quietly in a litter box filled with paper litter despite having a comfortable nest and numerous options.

The four kittens closely resembled their mother, and with the loving support of their foster caregiver, they began to thrive, quickly gaining weight.
