At 20 years old, Tessa the terrier mix remains a loyal and protective companion, especially to her mother, Shanna Lauren.

Yet, there is one thing that holds an even more special place in Tessa’s heart than her family—her beloved stuffed banana toy.

This simple yellow cloth toy may appear unremarkable to most, but to Tessa, it is priceless. Shanna bought the banana five years ago after another toy of Tessa’s was destroyed.

“I found it in the trash at a pet store, but I knew it was the size of a toy she loved,” Lauren shared. “As soon as I gave her the banana, she took it.”

Today, Tessa proudly showcases her cherished banana to visitors, eager for them to recognize its importance.

“She wants people to acknowledge her before they leave,” Lauren noted, adding that when guests put the toy down, Tessa insists on placing it in her favorite spot.

Even in her old age, Tessa’s love for her banana remains unwavering. “We encourage guests to tell her they see her banana so she can relax,” Lauren said. “It’s amusing that now, since she’s deaf, our friends shout, ‘I love your bananas, Tessa!’”

For Tessa, the message is clear: no matter how old you get, there’s always room for your favorite cuddly toy. “She never made it a game,” Lauren explained. “It is her only small possession and her life.”
