Following the incident, a judge determined that her previous owner, Allison Murphy, could not provide the necessary care. Murphy has been charged with a felony and faces a five-year ban on pet ownership.

The alarming event occurred in December 2020 when police responded to reports of a woman threatening to jump from a balcony.

Before law enforcement could arrive, Murphy threw Miracle over the railing. Remarkably, the dog regained her balance and was caught by bystanders.

They quickly took her to a nearby veterinary hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries, earning her the name “Miracle” due to her survival.

Since that day, Miracle has been cared for by a loving foster family, where she thrived and demonstrated her potential as a service dog.

With the help of Animal Services, she has now been matched with a veteran who can benefit from her companionship and assistance.

Service dogs like Miracle play a vital role in aiding veterans with disabilities, offering practical help such as opening doors and retrieving items, as well as providing emotional support for those dealing with PTSD or other mental health challenges.

Adam Leith, the Animal Services Director, commended all those involved in Miracle’s recovery and successful placement.

“We are pleased that, working with our law enforcement partners, we were able to intervene and protect Miracle from further harm,” he stated.

The collaboration between Animal Services and law enforcement continues to enhance the welfare of both animals and the community they serve.
