Tiny Puppy Rescued from Roof Finds a Loving New Home
When residents of an apartment complex discovered a tiny puppy stranded on a decayed roof, they were stunned and immediately took action to save him.
Alone and scared, the puppy lay on the roof, unable to find a way down. The compassionate residents quickly contacted the Austin Animal Center (AAC) in Texas for assistance, and animal protection officers Staci Figueroa and Erica Cerza arrived within minutes.
Quick-Thinking Rescue
Figueroa and Cerza were puzzled about how the puppy ended up on the roof. They learned that he had wandered down a hallway and slipped through a railing onto the roof, but he couldn’t figure out how to return.
The situation was urgent: a small hole in the metal near the puppy posed a severe danger if he fell through it.
Without hesitation, the officers and a helpful resident removed a picket from a fence using a screwdriver, allowing them to reach the puppy safely.
AAC shared on Facebook, “With the help of a resident and her handy dandy screwdriver, our officers could remove one of the pickets from the fence and get the little guy out. Once he was safe, the picket was replaced as if nothing had happened.”
Safe and Sound
Once rescued, the puppy relaxed in Cerza’s arms, showing no fear. He even began to play with her hair, indicating he felt secure and comfortable.
The AAC asked the apartment management to inform residents if the puppy belonged to someone, but no one claimed him.
The puppy was taken to the AAC facility, where he was named Wicket. Within days, Wicket’s playful and sweet nature emerged, delighting everyone at the center.
A Happy Ending
Wicket’s friendly demeanor soon earned him a new home. The AAC announced on Facebook, “No one came forward, and ‘Wicket’ was adopted to a new home last week.”
Now, Wicket enjoys life with his new family, which is far from decayed roofs and uncertainty. His days are filled with love, play, and exciting adventures.
Wicket’s story is a heartwarming reminder of the kindness and quick action of community members and rescuers, ensuring a happy ending for a little needy puppy.
