Angela Simmons was driving through South Carolina in the middle of a heavy rainstorm when she spotted a sad face peering through her car’s misted-up window. Simmons had been searching for this very dog.

Earlier, locals from a nearby trailer park had told her about a puppy tied up next to an old roadside couch. Realizing the dog had been abandoned, Simmons knew he needed help.

As she got closer, Simmons noticed the dog, later named Murphy, appeared uncomfortable, his paws and nose irritated from prolonged exposure to the elements. Though he seemed weary, Murphy was still full of affection.

With support from a local rescue group, Murphy was placed in a foster home, where he quickly adjusted to the warmth and care he’d long been missing.

The rescue team produced a video documenting Murphy’s journey, capturing his transformation.

“The moment he stepped into the foster home, he became a giant love bug,” said a team member who helped with his rescue.

Murphy was finally able to enjoy life’s simple pleasures—curling up in soft blankets, going for car rides, taking walks, and basking in the sunshine. His sweet nature and joyful spirit touched everyone he met.

“He’s incredibly smart and gets along great with other dogs,” said one of the caregivers. “He’s eager to learn and has wonderful manners.”

Murphy is now in the final stages of a trial adoption with a loving family, and it looks like this deserving pup will soon find the forever home he’s been waiting for.

After spending so much time alone, tied to a sofa, watching cars pass by, Murphy’s days of longing are almost behind him.
