18 Years Old Dog Kane Finds a Forever Home After Years of Waiting

When puppies arrive at animal shelters, they often find homes within weeks. However, senior dogs like Kane, an 18-year-old Pitbull, face a tougher challenge in their quest for a forever home.

Each year, shelters nationwide take in over 3.1 million dogs, but only about 2 million of these pups get adopted.

The remaining 1.1 million dogs, especially older and larger breeds, often struggle the most to find homes.

Pitbulls, in particular, face difficulties due to their undeserved negative reputation. When Kane arrived at the shelter, his prospects seemed bleak.

As a senior dog, he had health issues requiring extra care. Kane was blind in one eye and had poor vision in the other, and he suffered from severe arthritis.

Despite these challenges, Kane deserved a loving home. “He’s a wonderful companion,” said his foster mom, Carole Sandy. “He’s very friendly. He’s very easy.”

Carole and the shelter team tirelessly advocated for Kane, sharing his story on social media and even bringing it to the attention of local news outlets.

Their efforts paid off when Phil and Ewa Halverson learned about Kane and decided to adopt him. Kane’s new family was thrilled, and thanks to Carole and the shelter, Kane now has the chance to live his final days in happiness and peace.
