Dog Abandoned with a Bag of Diapers Finds Love Before Passing Away
Caring for a paralyzed pet can be incredibly challenging, which sometimes leads to unfortunate decisions. This was the case for Lunetta, a small, paralyzed dog abandoned on the streets of Salta, Argentina.
Tied to a rail outside a pet care facility, she had a rusty wheelchair, a bag of diapers, and a note explaining her condition.
A staff member from the facility was heartbroken upon discovering Lunetta and immediately contacted the local rescue group, Luba Salta. Two volunteers rushed to her aid, checking her health and bringing her to safety.
Though her previous owners had left no food or water, they included her name and age in the note, explaining their inability to care for her longer.
Lunetta was taken to a shelter and later placed with a foster family while her rescuers worked to find her a permanent home.
Her story was shared on Facebook, and soon an American family offered to adopt her.
Unfortunately, this initial adoption did not work out. The family struggled to meet the needs of a disabled dog, and Lunetta’s condition worsened as she developed a severe staph infection.
Despite this setback, her story didn’t end there. Another American family stepped in, offering Lunetta the care and love she needed.
In her new home, Lunetta thrived. With the help of a specially designed wheelchair, she enjoyed a happy and active life—playing with her dog sibling, exploring parks, and even experiencing snow for the first time. She was part of holiday celebrations, creating lasting memories with her new family.
Just a month after her 11th birthday, however, Lunetta’s health declined once again. She was admitted to the University Medical Hospital’s intensive care unit, where she bravely fought for her life. Sadly, she passed away surrounded by the family who had given her so much love in her final year.
Lunetta’s adoptive mother expressed her grief on social media, saying, “I will never forget her and how much she meant to me. She changed my life forever. I loved her very much.”
Though her journey ended, Lunetta’s last year was filled with joy and love. Her story is a testament to resilience, reminding us of the impact a caring home can make. Rest in peace, Lunetta.
