Baymax, a mother cat, and her kitten, Hairy Baby, were brought to a local animal shelter when their previous owners could no longer care for them.

Upon arrival, the shelter discovered that Baymax had a severe dental issue, causing her considerable discomfort.

The Newborn Kitten Rescue team typically focused on helping orphaned and critically ill kittens, saw the bond between Baymax and Hairy Baby and recognized that without proper care, Hairy might lose his mother.

They couldn’t bear to separate the two, especially knowing Baymax’s condition could be treated, so they took the mother and kitten under their care.

When the pair arrived at their foster home, Baymax immediately settled into her new bed, keeping her kitten close.

The Newborn Kitten Rescue later shared with Love Meow that both cats were “incredibly sweet and affectionate, not only when we first met them, but throughout their stay.”

Baymax required extensive dental work, including removing all her teeth, and she needed a lot of love and care.

Despite her discomfort, she remained a devoted mother, ensuring Hairy was always fed and groomed.

In their cozy new environment, Baymax could finally relax and focus on raising her kitten. She proudly watched as Hairy reached his milestones—taking his first steps outside the nest and exploring the towering cat tree for the first time.

Once Hairy was weaned, Baymax shifted her attention to bonding with her foster family, enjoying being the center of their affection.

Around this time, it was discovered that Baymax was completely deaf, explaining her loud meows that echoed through the house whenever she wanted attention. She also had striking heterochromatic eyes—one yellow, one blue.

As Hairy grew more independent, he was introduced to a blind kitten, Polka Dot. Polka Dot had arrived at the rescue with severe eye infections that left her blind, but she was full of energy and joy despite her challenges. From the start, she purred through every treatment and won over the hearts of everyone around her.

Hairy and Polka Dot became fast friends, chasing each other around the house and playing until they were exhausted.

They were inseparable, following one another everywhere like lifelong companions. Despite her blindness, Polka Dot quickly finds Hairy whenever he tries to hide, as though she has a special sense for tracking him.

“Hairy can barely keep up with her,” the rescue team said. “Being blind doesn’t slow her down at all. She’s feisty and always gives Hairy a run for his money, but they love it. Hairy is just as playful and full of energy.”

As the kittens’ friendship blossomed, Baymax continued enjoying her foster home’s comfort. She soaked up the love from her caregivers, often lounging around the house and enjoying belly rubs. Even without her teeth, she was thrilled to be eating without pain.

When Hairy and Polka Dot were ready to be adopted, they found a home together, ensuring their playful bond continued. Hairy remained as lively as ever, with Polka Dot at his side for every adventure.

Meanwhile, Baymax found her own forever home. Now named Opal, she enjoys being the sole focus of her new family’s attention, lounging on the couch and basking in the love of her adoring humans.
