Tiny Kitten Found on the Road Finds Her Forever Home
A tiny kitten discovered on the roadside is now living the life of her dreams after being rescued. Approximately two months ago, a kind passerby spotted the kitten crawling along the road’s edge and stopped to help.
When the kitten saw her rescuer approaching, she cried out and crawled toward them. “She was lucky someone saw her and jumped to save her,” said Ellen Carozza, LVT, VTS (CP-Feline), in an interview with Love Meow. “Right from the beginning, she was the sweetest kitten who wanted to be rescued.”
Named Poppy, the kitten was in dire condition—emaciated, infested with ticks, suffering from stomach issues, and with broken front legs.
A local animal rescue, To The ResQ, took her in and provided immediate medical attention but realized she required further care.
They contacted Ellen, whose Chris Griffey Memorial Feline Foundation (CGMFF) specializes in caring for critically ill kittens.
The circumstances leading to Poppy’s injuries remained unclear, but it was evident that her future would be filled with love and care.
Ellen welcomed Poppy into her home without hesitation. She bathed the kitten and crafted fresh splints for her broken legs.
Ellen and her team implemented a treatment plan similar to one they had used successfully on another kitten with broken legs. Within a few days of tender loving care, Poppy began to gain weight and regain her strength.
She enjoyed being brushed with a toothbrush and wrapped in a towel, dreaming of the day she could play like a normal kitten.
The splints didn’t bother Poppy; she often lay on her back, exposing her belly. After a week of treatment, the staff observed significant healing in her legs and decided to let her play with another kitten. Poppy quickly charmed everyone she met, both human and feline.
As she continued to heal, her playful spirit began to shine. Poppy cleverly removed her splints one day and strolled around on all fours, even performing a perfect meerkat impression when asked about the braces.
With her recovery on track, Poppy couldn’t contain her excitement about being able to move freely.
Once her splints were removed, her playful, mischievous nature truly blossomed. She explored a new box of pee pads and decided to nap there instead of in her cozy bed.
Poppy also “helped” her human by jumping into the laundry basket right after it was filled with fresh clothes and climbing to the top of a cat tree, lying on the highest platform with her belly up and toes pointed like a ballerina.
“Poppy loves to play, climb, and be a normal kitten. We are very proud that she has recovered so well,” Ellen said.
After overcoming her challenging start, Poppy was ready for her next adventure. She wished for a forever home filled with love and feline friends; as fate would have it, that family was already looking for her.
While Poppy was recovering, a previous adopter of CGMFF was seeking a companion for her cat, Finnegan, who had also been adopted from the foundation.
Captivated by Poppy’s fearless personality, she knew the kitten would make the perfect addition to her family.
Today, Poppy has transformed into a vibrant, playful young cat who embraces life to the fullest in her forever home, making her dreams come true.
