When a dog enters a shelter, the goal is to quickly find a suitable home, either with a foster family or in a permanent, loving environment.

Unfortunately, some dogs stay in shelters longer than expected, and in certain high-kill shelters, those who remain unadopted are often euthanized.

In no-kill shelters, dogs may spend weeks or months in kennels, waiting for the right family to adopt them.

This was the case for Jacko, a 5-year-old blind Collie, who arrived at Many Tears Animal Rescue. Despite the staff’s hopes that Jacko would quickly find a home, days turned into weeks, and weeks stretched into months. Jacko remained at the rescue for over a year.

The shelter became increasingly determined to find Jacko a home where he could thrive. However, it wasn’t an easy task.

According to the rescue, Jacko was “extremely affectionate and loving with the people he knew, but cautious around strangers.”

They were committed to finding him the perfect match—a family that could understand and meet his needs.

“Jacko is hoping for a quiet life as the only dog in a rural home with a big garden where he can run freely,” the rescue explained. They wanted to ensure Jacko’s future home would be the right fit for his temperament and lifestyle.

After 15 long months, Jacko finally got his chance. The shelter shared the heartwarming news on TikTok, announcing, “Great news about our beloved Jacko! After waiting patiently for over a year, he’s finally been adopted and has his field to run in, with a human to call his own, every day!”

The shelter expressed their joy, adding that Jacko now has “unlimited freedom, a dedicated owner, and even some furry friends.”

The post ended with a heartfelt message: “No one deserves it more than Jacko. Congratulations on your adoption!”
