Miracle Puppy Overcomes Adversity and Finds Her Forever Home
When we think of our pets, we often picture a lifetime of companionship and care through good times and bad. But sadly, not all dogs are given the same chance.
One tiny puppy named Guppy Hanson was abandoned at birth due to a leg deformity and a low chance of survival. Her story, however, is one of triumph and love.
Guppy Hanson, a mix of Shih Tzu and Beagle, was born on April 27, 2022, in Wetumpka, Alabama. She was one of four puppies, but her mother rejected her because of her deformity.
Weighing just four ounces, about the size of a granola bar, Guppy was left at Bryson Veterinary Clinic by her owners, who believed she wouldn’t survive.
However, the vets at the clinic saw her fighting spirit and decided to give her a chance. The staff took turns nursing her at home to provide round-the-clock care. One staff member, Becky Yourman, brought Guppy home, where her daughter, Jess Lane, instantly fell in love with the tiny puppy.
They named her Guppy Hanson, reflecting her small size and a nod to a character in the movie “Scary Movie 2.”
Thanks to the constant care and supplements provided by the Yourman family, Guppy grew stronger.
At three months old, she was stable enough for an X-ray, which revealed she lacked a shoulder joint along with other bones. Yet, her deformity didn’t cause her pain, and surgery wasn’t required.
Guppy found her new home with the Yourmans, and their other dog, Libby, became a surrogate mother, showering her with love and attention.
Despite her challenges, Guppy thrived. She enjoyed digging and playing with her toys and blankets; her family even took her for stroller rides. She faced obstacles, like climbing steps, but quickly adapted, learning to jump without her arm getting caught.
The Yourmans discovered that Guppy was deaf when she didn’t respond to sounds or her name, but this didn’t slow her down.
Guppy continued to live a happy and fulfilling life with her forever family. As Jess Lane noted, her son frequently hugs Guppy and tells her she’s the most beautiful girl in the world.
Guppy’s journey has captured the hearts of many, and she has a dedicated following on her Facebook page, where she shares updates on her adventures and hobbies, including her newfound love of playing with empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls. She celebrated her first birthday in Apri with a fundraiser in her honor.
Thanks to the love and support of her new family, Guppy Hanson has transformed from an abandoned puppy with slim chances to a happy and thriving dog.
It’s a heartwarming reminder of compassion and second chances’ impact on a life.
