Kind Soul Rescues Abandoned Senior Dog Left at Ohio Cat Shelter

When senior dogs are abandoned, it’s often because their owners move to places that don’t allow pets.

Unfortunately, some people leave their older dogs in shelters or on the streets instead of finding a new home. This happened to Honey, a 15-year-old dog abandoned at a cat rescue in Ohio.

Kay Banks, who works at the Tabby Tails Cat Rescue, was on duty one day when she noticed a dog circling the building.

At first, she thought it might be a neighbor’s dog, but upon closer inspection, she realized that the dog was alone and needed help.

Banks quickly let the dog in and named her Honey. She noticed that Honey had gray hair, indicating she was a senior dog.

Upon checking Honey’s microchip, Banks discovered that her previous owners didn’t want her back. This left Banks with a difficult decision: should she take Honey to a dog shelter where she might be euthanized or keep her at the cat rescue and care for her? Banks chose the latter, even though her shelter primarily deals with cats.

Banks provided Honey with immediate care, addressing her arthritis with laser therapy to reduce pain and improve mobility.

Honey also had overgrown nails, ticks, and fleas, which required veterinary attention. Despite the initial challenges, Honey settled comfortably with Banks, enjoying her company and care.

Though Banks primarily works with cats, she’s committed to finding Honey a loving home, even though placing senior dogs is often more challenging.

Honey is happy and well-cared for at Tabby Tails Cat Rescue, where Banks continues giving her the love and attention she needs.
