Petey, a young dog from North Carolina, had a tough start in life, spending far too long in a crowded shelter without finding a permanent home.

However, his story took a joyful turn when he was transferred from a high-intake shelter in North Carolina to the SPCA of Wake County in early October.

Despite his sweet nature, potential adopters often overlooked Petey, making him the longest shelter resident.

SPCA Wake shared a photo of Petey online to improve his chances of finding a family. The image of the adorable dog soon caught the attention of a loving family who couldn’t resist his charm. They decided to bring him into their home, and the bond was immediate.

The family shared photos of Petey settling into his new life and playing with his new family members, including a furry sibling.

One particularly heartwarming photo showed Petey curled up on a blanket, fast asleep, with a big smile—a clear sign that he had found a place where he felt safe and loved.
