From Neglect to Love: A Blind Dog’s Journey to a Happy Home
After enduring neglect and abuse, an adorable dog named Puddin has found a loving home and a new best friend.
Despite losing sight due to severe infections, Puddin is thriving in the care of her new owner, Cory Gonzales, a 23-year-old student from Lubbock, Texas.
Puddin, a terrier mix, was born with sight but had her eyes removed due to a severe infection. Authorities had to intervene and remove the neglected dog’s infected eyes, stitching her eye sockets shut to relieve her pain. This drastic measure ultimately led to Puddin finding a caring home with Cory.
Photos of Puddin showcase her joy in her new life, playing fetch with toys and snuggling with her owner.
Despite her blindness, the young pup exudes happiness, especially when rocking a pair of sunglasses or playing with her favorite toy bone.
Puddin’s journey to safety wasn’t easy. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Texas (SPCA) had to go to court to rescue her from neglectful owners.
Her previous caretakers refused to seek medical help until it was too late, resulting in severe damage to her eyes.
Cory recounts the struggle to save Puddin, explaining that her owners refused to hand her over, leading to a long legal battle. Eventually, the SPCA of Texas won custody, naming her “Puddin” and ensuring her safety.
Cory discovered Puddin through an online ad and was instantly captivated. He adopted her, giving her a forever home and a platform to raise awareness about adopting special-needs pets.
Cory emphasizes that raising a dog with special needs is not significantly different from raising any other dog. With additional training and special commands, Puddin navigates life like any other pup.
Today, Puddin enjoys a high-quality life, including long naps, trips to the dog park, and playdates with her dog friend Murphy. Cory even created an Instagram account for Puddin, which has gained over 135,000 followers.
The account’s popularity led to a line of Puddin-themed merchandise, all inspired by the love and support from fans worldwide.
Cory’s mission is to encourage people to adopt rather than buy puppies, especially dogs with special needs. He hopes Puddin’s story will inspire others to consider rescuing pets.
Despite the challenges, Puddin’s journey from neglect to a happy home is a heartwarming reminder of the resilience of animals and the power of second chances.
