Devoted Dog Brings Food to Starving Friend to Keep Him Alive
According to Rescue Paws Curaçao (RPC), two dogs were recently rescued from a landfill by a foster named Demi.
The rescue group is doing all they can to help, as Demi shared the heartbreaking story behind their discovery.
Demi explained, “My day started like any other—getting ready for work and heading out. On the way, I passed by a landfill, which sadly has become a common dumping ground for dogs, both living and dead. This is where I found two puppies, Milly and Mia, just last week. I regularly stop by to feed the dogs living there, hoping to see the ones I’ve been helping.”
When Demi arrived at the usual spot, something caught her attention. Two emaciated dogs were lying next to a pile of bones, dogs she hadn’t seen there before.
She stopped her car and got out, noticing that one of the dogs appeared to be bringing food to the other, trying to keep her friend alive.
One of the dogs was too weak to move and had a chain tightly wrapped around his neck, which Demi managed to remove. Both dogs gratefully accepted the food and water she offered, though they were in a pitiful state.
“I had to go to work, but I couldn’t stop thinking about them,” Demi recalled. “I showed the photos to my colleagues, and all I could think about was that someone might find them and decide not to give them a chance.”
The dogs reminded Demi of two others she had once rescued, Finn and Kai, who were also found malnourished and wearing collars.
Concerned, she rushed back to the landfill as soon as she could. Luckily, the dogs were still there, and she immediately took them to the vet.
The veterinarian determined that the dogs, though severely undernourished, were likely suffering from an infection and malnutrition.
“She believes they can be saved,” Demi said. “The vet gave them some medicine, and I’ll need to bring them back for further treatment tomorrow.”
Due to their weak state, the dogs couldn’t take oral medication, but they began eating small portions of chicken and rice.
In the worst condition, the male dog weighed only 9 pounds and couldn’t walk independently. Despite their condition, both dogs showed a will to survive.
Now, the pair are safe at the Rescue Paws Curaçao facility, away from the other foster dogs. The team is doing everything possible to help them recover and give them a second chance at life.
