Shelter Dog Finds Hope After Losing Her Best Friend to Adoption
Last month, Stillwater Animal Welfare (SAW) in Oklahoma City rescued two dogs, Bonnie and Clyde, who were seen running through the city’s busy streets. Although SAW frequently rescues multiple dogs simultaneously, these two have a unique bond.
“They traveled who knows how far,” said Ashlie Jerkes, an animal care worker at SAW, “but they always stayed together.”
The staff greeted Bonnie and Clyde with open arms and quickly noticed their special connection.
They even shared a kennel while they recovered from their heartworm treatment, proving they were inseparable.
After a few days in the shelter, Clyde was adopted by a loving family. Bonnie, left behind, became despondent without her closest companion.
A photo of her lying face down on her cot was posted on SAW’s social media, pleading for someone to adopt her.
“Bonnie is all alone since her brother got adopted,” the Facebook post read. “She misses having a sibling to cuddle with.”
The post garnered a swift response, and by Monday morning, a new family was ready to adopt Bonnie.
“She’s already settling in!” Brayden Routh, Bonnie’s new owner, shared on Facebook. “She’s going to have the best life, full of adventures with her blue heeler-mix big sis.”
Although Bonnie will always miss her best friend, Clyde, she’s excited for the new adventures ahead with her loving family.
