When these moments hit, a comforting hug can make all the difference. Louboutin, a golden retriever in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, has taken it upon herself to spread that warmth and comfort.

Louboutin, or “Loubie” as her fans affectionately call her, has become a local celebrity for her friendly and affectionate nature.

Her owner, Fernandez-Chavez, walks with her for about two hours each day, and during these walks, Loubie hugs the people she meets.

“It’s not just a regular walk,” says Fernandez-Chavez, “it’s a walk with hugging.” He adds, “A lot of people say she’s made their day… like, if they had a bad day at work, maybe that’s just what they needed.”

Loubie’s hugging habit began on Valentine’s Day in 2014, after Fernandez-Chavez experienced a breakup. Feeling low, he noticed Loubie sitting up and reaching to hold his hands with her paws.

“She started grabbing my hands with both of her paws and crossing one paw over the other,” he recalls. “I remember joking with my friends, ‘At least I have someone to hold hands with during Valentine’s.’”

Since then, Louboutin has spread joy with her hugs, and many people in the city look forward to seeing her on the streets.

Through her Instagram account, she’s garnered fans worldwide who appreciate her simple but heartwarming gesture.
