Goldendoodle Rescues Drowning Baby Deer, Sparks Heartwarming Friendship

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, sometimes with fur and a wagging tail. Meet Harley, a brave Goldendoodle who became an unexpected hero after rescuing a baby deer from drowning in a lake near his Virginia home.

Ralph Dorn, Harley’s owner and a retired Marine Corps pilot, was searching for his dog when he saw Harley about 200 feet from shore, swimming alongside a tiny fawn. The baby deer appeared to be lost and struggling in the water.

Ralph captured the heartwarming scene on video and shared it on Facebook, which quickly went viral.

Harley gently guided the fawn back to shore, staying close to ensure its safety. Once they reached the edge, Ralph helped the young deer up a steep ledge and onto solid ground.

The fawn seemed only a few days old, and Harley, showing his compassionate nature, sniffed and licked the baby deer to comfort it.

While Harley was caring for the fawn, its mother arrived, searching for her missing baby. Ralph and Harley quietly retreated to give them space to reunite, and the mother and fawn were soon together again.

The following day, the fawn returned to Ralph’s house, seemingly to meet its rescuer again. Thrilled to see his new friend, Harley jumped from one window to another, eagerly waiting to greet the baby deer.

When Ralph opened the door, the dog and the deer shared an adorable reunion with nose touches, tail wags, and plenty of sniffing. After their happy interaction, Harley calmly returned home.

Ralph shared that Harley has always had a gentle and loving nature, especially toward children and animals. “He loves them all,” Ralph said. The video footage from the rescue proves just how caring and kindhearted Harley is.
