Cop Rescues Dog Tied to Utility Pole in Scorching Florida Heat

In Pompano, Florida, a police officer rescued two dogs tied to utility poles in extreme heat.

Officer Angela Laurella was dispatched to investigate the situation, finding one of the dogs tightly bound to a pole, seemingly unable to move due to dehydration and hunger.

No one knew how long the dogs had been tied there, nor who left them, as there were no security cameras in the area.

Officer Laurella realized the situation’s urgency, especially with the temperature over 100 degrees.

She found a weak gray dog clinging to the pole with a short leash. The dog, later named Liam, was severely underweight and dehydrated, with ribs and bones visibly protruding.

According to The Dodo, Amy Roman, the president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades, Florida, was told that Liam seemed to be asking for help when Officer Laurella approached him.

He gently extended his paw to her as if begging for her assistance to be freed from his miserable state.

Realizing Liam’s dire condition, Officer Laurella contacted 100+ Abandoned Dogs in Everglades, Florida, for assistance.

Despite the rescue organization’s total capacity, Roman gladly agreed to take in the neglected dog.

After several visits to the vet, Liam, a 17-pound pocket bulldog, is now recuperating at Roman’s home.

He’s slowly gaining strength and eating more efficiently as he receives round-the-clock care from volunteers who boil chicken and rice in large batches for him.

Roman mentioned that Liam still has a long road ahead of him, with several vet appointments in the future, but he has been a joy since his rescue.

She shared that Liam “loves everyone, and this dog doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.” His kind-hearted nature is incredibly touching, given everything he has endured.

Roman and other animal advocates hope stories like Liam’s will encourage pet owners to seek help from shelters and rescues before abandoning or giving up on their pets.

Florida has seen a rise in animal abandonments and surrenders, and many shelters are already at capacity. Liam’s story is a poignant reminder that every dog deserves a second chance.
