Golden Retriever and Duck Are Best Friends Despite Unlikely Beginnings

Golden retrievers are known for their friendly and sociable nature, but not every day you see one forming a close bond with a duck.

Barclay, a golden retriever, and Rudy, a duck, have become inseparable companions despite their unlikely friendship beginning with a desire for food.

Rudy is one of seven ducks owned by Pam Ishiguro, who lives in Orange County. Initially, Barclay wasn’t interested in the ducks, but that changed when he realized they had a constant food supply.

Barclay discovered that by becoming friends with Rudy, he could also enjoy their food, a significant motivation for a dog.

Ishiguro mentioned that Barclay started eating the food meant for the ducks, which led to a unique friendship.

Despite their odd pairing, Barclay and Rudy now spend a lot of time together, and their interactions are both heartwarming and entertaining.

While Rudy often takes the lead, sometimes bossing Barclay around, they share a strong bond that resembles a love-hate relationship.

Ishiguro notes that when they are together, they chase each other and jump over, but when they are apart, they always call out to one another.

The relationship between Barclay and Rudy might remind you of siblings who play and sometimes quarrel, but at the end of the day, they care for each other deeply.
